Candy Bowl slated soon

Ada — For the past four years, families seeking a safe place to go trick-or-treating have flocked to the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex.

Organizers are hoping to attract a sizable crowd again this year, when the Candy Bowl event returns to the Agri-Plex.

The fifth annual Candy Bowl will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Agri-Plex’s indoor arena, known as the “big red barn.” The event is open to people of all ages, and there is no admission fee.

The event usually draws at least 6,000 people, and organizers are expecting between 6,000 and 7,000 to attend this year, said event coordinator Phillip Wood.

Businesses, civic organizations and other groups are welcome to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters during the event. Organizers will provide tables and set up the booths, and the group’s only expense will be the cost of buying candy.

“So far, we’ve got a pretty good group of vendors who have called and said they want to be part of it,” Wood said. “We want as many vendors as we can get.”

Organizers are currently accepting donations to cover the cost of buying candy.
