Inmate, ex-jailer sentenced in jail break

Ada —

District Judge Tommy Landrith called the court to order and former jail employee Jerriana Kendrick was escorted in chains and orange jumper to a spot just beneath him.

On Sept. 26, 2012, two Pontotoc County Justice Center Inmates were found missing during an inmate head count. Detention Officer Jeff Black discovered two inmates, Mark David Matthews and Johnny Welborn Brown, Jr., were missing from their assigned  housing in E-Pod, Cell 201. A thorough search turned up nothing. But a study of prison video showed the two escaping through a total of five “secure” doors that could only be opened by a person possessing a key or by the person operating the Control Room.

Authorities immediately turned their attention to Pontotoc County Detention Officer Kindrick, who admitted to helping the inmates escape.
