Ada —
A large two-story house, approximately six months old, was destroyed by fire Monday southwest of the Pontotoc Technology Center in the Smith Lake area outside the Ada city limits.
Assistant Ada Fire Chief David Painter said a rough estimate on the cost of damage to the new home was approximately $390,000, with another estimated $185,000 worth of damage to the contents of the interior of the home at 17132 County Road 3548.
An unidentified caller to 911 reported she saw smoke coming from the house then saw flames. People's Electric Cooperative was called immediately to shut off electricity.
The home, according to fire officials, belonged to Jason Campbell.
Volunteer firefighters from Pickett, Oil Center and Union Valley assisted the Ada Fire Department in fighting the blaze from 5:39 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Painter estimated the size of the home at between 3,000-4,000 square feet.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Painter said the blaze appeared to be accidental.
“It appears to have originated in the attic area,” Painter said. “It could be electrical or the heat and air. We just don’t know right now.”
Cause of the blaze is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
