Ada —
East Central University men’s head basketball coach Mac McConnell, who has served a five-game disciplinary suspension, has been reinstated to the Tiger post, according to ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Williams.
“In my conversations with coach McConnell concerning this incident, he has expressed deep remorse and regret for the circumstances which led to his suspension,” Williams said. “I deeply appreciate the character and evidence of personal growth that he has shown through this process. He has assured me that he is ready to put this behind him and we’re ready to move ahead as a program.”
McConnell returned to coaching the team in practice on Monday.
“Leaders have to take responsibility. I hope that we all can learn from this and look forward to moving on,” said McConnell.
McConnell’s first game back will be Thursday as the Tigers visit Southern Arkansas for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The team will also play at Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday.
“I would like to thank assistant coach Trey Hendon for serving as our interim head coach during this process. His tireless efforts have kept our men’s basketball program on a steady course,” said Williams.
McConnell was suspended following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
