Another honor for East Central's Kennemer

East Central University’s Emily Kennemer was named to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America Softball First Team, it was announced on Wednesday.

The senior first baseman from Mesquite, Texas, was selected as an infielder to join 10 other players on the first team. A second and third team was also announced. The voting for the teams was conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).

Kennemer was voted to the team by virtue of her performance in the classroom and on the field. The education/kinesiology major maintained a 3.97 grade-point average throughout her college career while recently graduating from ECU.

She earned numerous awards this season including Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District, Daktronics All-Region, Great American Conference Player of the Year, All-Great American Conference First Team and ECU Female Student-Athlete of the Year twice in 2011 and 2012.

During the course of the 2012 season, Kennemer won three GAC Player of the Week awards.

Statistically, she led the GAC in seven offensive categories: batting average (.455), hits (66), home runs (11), doubles (16), total bases (117), on-base percentage (.527) and slugging percentage (.807).

Defensively, she had a .991 fielding percentage from her busy first base spot.

As a junior in 2011, Kennemer was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team after hitting .396. She also picked up an All-Lone Star Conference North First Team award.

Kennemer’s career statistics include 27 homers, 217 hits, 124 runs batted in, 53 doubles, two triples and 84 runs scored. She also hit .342 as a sophomore and .326 as a freshman.

    The preliminary competitions for the 2013 Ada News All-Star Classic 3-point Shoot Out and Slam Dunk contests were literally seconds from coming to an end when Ada High sophomore Cory Kilby rushed to the scorer’s table inside Stonewall’s Murphy-Roberts Gymnasium and asked if it was too late for him to enter the fray.

  • Cougar Composers Cougars coach takes no chances

    At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Ada Cougars headed up to the soccer field for practice. At 2:50 they headed back down the hill and to the safety of ‘The Dunham’ the huge indoor practice facility. Lightning had been recorded some 14 miles west and head coach Matt Weber was taking no chances.
