NOTEWORTHY: Rattan (No. 1 in Class 3A) built a 14-3 lead then held off a late Stonewall rally. The Lady Longhorns (No. 5 in Class 2A) scored seven times in the bottom of the third to make a game of it, with Lyndsay Daffern’s three-run homer the big blow. Breann Gipson ignited a three-run second-inning rally with a solo home run, and she added an RBI single in the third, but Stonewall couldn’t overcome seven errors, despite outhitting Rattan, 11-10.

NOTEWORTHY: Stonewall managed just three hits as Bethel (No. 5 in Class 5A) cruised to the victory.

NOTEWORTHY: Breann Gipson’s two-run triple highlighted a three-run first-inning rally, and Bradianne Daniel’s two-run triple was the big blow in a three-run sixth as Stonewall beat Class 3A No. 11 Morrison. Gipson finished 3-for-3 and Daniel was 2-for-3 to account for all but two of Stonewall’s hits in the victory.

NOTEWORTHY: Tupelo (No. 6 in Class A) blew a 10-4 lead but rebounded from a seven-run Calera outburst in the top of the fourth inning and scored the game’s final four runs en route to the victory. Winning pitcher Brittany Sanders had two doubles and drove in two runs to help her own cause, and batterymate Tamara Thompson had four of the Lady Tigers’ 17 hits in the win. Haylee Fowler, Amber Cosar and Aspen Collins also had two hits, including a double, apiece to help Tupelo to the semifinals.

NOTEWORTHY: Junior Tyler Pierce scattered five hits and struck out seven, and Jake Scroggins, Reid Wall and Joe Nemecek drove in two runs apiece as Byng (No. 6 in Class 4A) remained unbeaten with the road win over 3A No. 11 Sulphur. Scroggins continued his early-season hitting tear with three hits, including RBI doubles in the fifth and seventh innings, Wall was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs with a single in Byng’s five-run seventh-inning rally, and Nemecek had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and an RBI single in the seventh.
