San Diego —
Roff's Dayne Parker allowed three hits over six innings in his first start on the mound this summer, and the Oklahoma Travelers won their fourth straight game at the United States Amateur Baseball Federation World Series with an 8-0 rout of the Southern California National Travel Team Monday afternoon.
The Travelers then improved to 5-0 in pool play Tuesday with their third run-rule victory of the World Series, a 12-2 decision over the Arizona Play Hard Halos. With the two wins, the Travelers (57-5) ensured themselves of a spot in the eight-team, double-elimination championship round, which begins Thursday. They could wrap up a No. 1 seed with a victory in their final pool play contest against the San Diego Hustle at 5 p.m. (PDT) today.
Monday's Game
Travelers 8, SoCal N.T.T. 0
Parker, who was used mainly in relief during his senior year at Roff on a pitching staff that set or tied several state records, had made only a handful of appearances — and no starts — for the Travelers this season before Monday. But he showed no rust at all, striking out five and walking just one while allowing the rest of the Traveler pitching staff to rest up for games later in the week, and he was also 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Brendan McCurry, Parker's former Roff teammate, cooled off a bit after going 9-for-11 in the Travelers' first three Series games, but he was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The Travelers snapped a scoreless tie with a run in the third and ended the game on the run rule with a four-run sixth. Travis Caraway was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and 15-year-old phenom Drew Ward hit a solo home run to pace a seven-hit attack.
Tuesday's Game
Travelers 12, Halos 2
Arnett teammates Marc White and Bryce Shoaf combined on a two-hitter, and the Travelers scored in each of their four at-bats. They broke open a close game with a six-run third and ended it on the run rule with three more in the fourth.
White allowed two runs and two hits in his four innings on the mound, and Shoaf mopped up with a perfect fifth to seal the win.
Charlie Curl and Travis Caraway continued their outstanding World Series, with Curl going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Caraway finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Berryhill's Clayton Green was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, Oktaha's Cale Elam was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Daniel Edwards had a double in two at-bats and drove in two runs, McCurry was 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Parker finished 1-for-2 with an RBI in the win.
