Stonewall School names Teacher of the Year for 2012

Stonewall —  

Stonewall School District has named Gary Herdman  Teacher of the Year  for 2012.

Herdman has taught second grade and kindergarten positions for the Stonewall School District since 2009.  He brings a vast ” real world” experience to the classroom.  

Herdman began his teaching career in 2000 in Barstow, Calif., where he taught until 2007. After relocating to Oklahoma, he has taught at Sulphur, Western Heights, and Stonewall. He received a bachelor of arts in library studies with an education emphasis from California Baptist University, a Master of Arts degree in Instruction and Curriculum from Azusa Pacific University and also has completed a MA as a reading specialist from East Central University.

Before  teaching, Herdman served  in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and as a dietician while  serving in the Reserves. He also was in the public schools classified positions as an aide, custodian, and food service. While teaching at Stonewall he has been involved in Literacy Night and distributed free books for the elementary.

Brian Davis was recognized as Stonewall High School Teacher of the Year and Kim Miller was recognized as McLish Middle School Teacher of the Year.
