A child stepped off the “Orphan Train” in McAlester, Indian Territory in 1880. Having no family, the surname he took was Orphan.
Today, the Orphan family is a Native American gospel singing group, from the Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes. They have been traveling and ministering in song for more than 40 years.
With their sweet family harmonies they have tried to maintain a Southern Gospel sound, with a focus on songs that are uplifting and that bring glory to the Savior. Levi Orphan and his daughters, together with Brad Joe, pianist and singer, are continuing the ministry and legacy of their mother and friend, the late pianist and vocalist, Sue Alexander Orphan.
The group will be at Colbert Baptist this Sunday evening. The service promises to be filled with a variety of musical styles, both gospel and cultural, vocal and instrumental.
