Ada — Mediation efforts between two southeastern Oklahoma tribes and the state of Oklahoma are moving forward and U.S. Rep. Tom Cole is seeing progress that could ultimately resolve the conflict.
“I’m not directly involved in it (mediation) but I am in contact with people who are and I’m optimistic both sides see the benefits of resolving (the conflict) without federal litigation,” Cole said.
Additionally, Cole praised the negotiation efforts of Chickasaw chief legal counsel Michael Burrage and Oklahoma Secretary of State Glenn Coffee.
“Both of these men have a great deal of respect for each other. That’s important when attempting to forge an agreement,” Cole said.
