Elgie Howard Jackson

Services for Elgie Howard Jackson, 69, Ada, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Larry Pruitt officiating. The United States Air Force Honor Guard is conducting full military honors at the service. The family is receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home. 

Mr. Jackson died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at an Oklahoma City veterans hospital. He was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Goodwater, Okla., to Elgie Earl and Cora Elnora Jackson.

He graduated from high school and attended college for two years. He moved to Ada in 1980 from Florida.

He married Shirley Johnson on Sept. 10, 1989, at Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Ada. She died Nov. 29, 2009.

Mr. Jackson was retired from the U.S. Air Force and later worked at Auto Zone as a general clerk. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include four daughters, DeAnna Jackson, Duncan, Doreen Hopkins and husband Hank, Ratliff City, Toni Hamilton, Ada, and Dixie Ernst-Phillips and husband James "Snuffy" Phillips, Ada; four sons, Donny Jackson, Duncan, Richard Johnson and wife Cheryl, Konawa, Dennis Johnson, Ada, and Joe Johnson and wife Tina, Ada; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Liz Cowell and husband Randy, Valliant, four brothers, Earl Jackson and wife Pat, San Leandro, Calif., Lee Jackson and wife Sandi, San Leandro, Calif., William Jackson and wife Audrey, Idabel, and Stan Jackson, Oklahoma City; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Jackson of Hulbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Clapp; brother, Clifton Jackson; and a granddaughter, Rachel Jackson.

Honorary bearers are Mike Ernst, Mark Ernst, Tyler Jackson, Steven Ward, Caleb Jackson, Jay Johnson, Chase Johnson, Michael Cooney, Gabriel Wolfkill, Tommy “Rooter” Lee, Dalton Phillips and Ricky Johnson.
