Velma Grigsby

Ada —      Funeral services for Mrs. Velma J. Grigsby, 87, of Tishomingo took place Monday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Westside Church of Christ, with Brother Wendell Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery in Clarita, Oklahoma. Mrs. Grigsby passed away on Nov. 8 at her home.

 Velma was born on Jan. 10, 1925, in Burr Valley, Okla., to Luther Montreal Rush and Charlotte (Wilbanks) Rush. She graduated from Clarita High School and later attended East Central State University in Ada. She married John E. Grigsby on April 21, 1946, in Ada and after living in different parts of the state for several years, moved to Tishomingo in 1972. Mrs. Grigsby worked at the Armstrong’s Department Store as a retail sales clerk for many years and was a member of various organizations, including the H. C. E. Club, the Garden Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Amaranth and the Westside Church of Christ.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Grigsby, on April 19, 2003; three sisters, Edna Lane, Minnie Dodson and Julia Perry; and two brothers, Eddie Rush and Vernon Rush.

 Mrs. Grigsby is survived by her son, John Douglas “Doug” Grigsby, and her daughter, Vickie Lea Riddle, both of Tishomingo; two brothers, Edgar Rush of Nevada, Missouri, and L.M. Rush and his wife, Myrtie, of Clarita; her granddaughter, Kristie Wright and her husband, Jeff, of Sandy Hook, Mississippi; her grandson, Christian Taylor Broom of Tishomingo; two great-grandsons, Austin Hunter Wright and Colby James Wright of Sandy Hook, Mississippi; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

     Pallbearers for the service will be members of the Westside Church of Christ.
