Evelyn Deatherage

Services for Evelyn M. Deatherage, 87, Durant, formerly of Ada, are 2 p.m. Friday at Southwest Church of Christ, with David Dirram officiating. Burial follows at Lightning Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Deatherage died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at a Durant nursing home. She was born March 5, 1925, to Jess Almay Martin and Gladys Elizabeth Asselstine. She attended Pickett and Vanoss Schools. 

She married Louis Benjamin Deatherage on Jan. 29, 1944, in Ada. He died Oct. 30, 1986. Mrs. Deatherage was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Southwest Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Garry Deatherage, Stonewall; six daughters, Laura Taylor and husband, Steve of Canyon, Texas, Linda Smith of Stonewall, Marilyn Gobert of Kenefic, Gayla Whittington and husband, Roy, of Stratford, Katrina Deatherage of Ada and Stacy Craber and husband, Mark, of Spring, Texas; two brothers, Lloyd Martin and wife, Sharon, of Tecumseh, and Kenneth Martin and wife, Willie, of Ranier, Wash.; two sisters, Geneva Ailey of Meeker and Betty Ballard and husband, Billy, of Ada; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis “Ben” Deatherage; parents, Jess and Gladys Martin; brother, Charles Martin; sister, Margarite Deatherage; and two grandsons.

Bearers are Markus Craber, Nathan Gobert, Cody Teegarden, Bruce Hodges, Jeremy McCain and Chris Roland.
