Elmo Yeargan

Services for Elmo Yeargan, 89, Ada, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Life Community Church, the Revs. Paul Bettis, Rod Payne and Mickey Keith officiating. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors are being conducted by Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard at the cemetery.

Mr. Yeargan died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at an Ada hospital. He was born July 20, 1923, to Sam and Iva Simmons Yeargan at Roff. He attended Roff Schools. Mr. Yeargan owned Okey Dokey Drive In, Elmo’s Drive In and Elmo’s Used Cars. He opened the first carwash in Ada and the first serve-yourself gas station. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Life Community Church.

He and JoAnn McCord Payne were married Jan. 25, 1985.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Pat Bettis, Norman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Kay Piaskowski, Choctaw, and Ruthie and Chad Lamb, Ada;  a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bob Cofer, Wynnewood; 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Rod Payne and wife, Vicky, Wichita Falls, Texas, Jeff Payne and wife, Kathy, Beaumont, Texas, and Anne Reeves and husband, Joe, Espanolo, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harlis Yeargan; and three sisters, Edith Brown, Wanda Simco and Jerlene Williams.

Grandsons are serving as bearers.
