Romney wins state, Pontotoc County, too

Ada —

Mitt Romney coasted to an easy win over Barack Obama in Oklahoma on Tuesday and captured the state’s seven electoral votes.

Pontotoc County voters also voted overwhelmingly for the Republican standard-bearer. As The Ada News deadline neared, Romney was besting Obama by a margin of 3-1. Romney had garnered 3,766 votes to Obama’s 1,713. That figure will likely grow and represents only a third of the 21 precincts in Pontotoc County.

Republicans hoped Romney’s popularity in the state would translate to success for other GOP candidates further down the ballot, especially congressional candidates, as the party sought to capture all five seats in the U.S. House. U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas was re-elected to an 11th term in the sprawling 3rd Congressional District over Democrat Timothy Murray of Moore and independent William Sanders of Stillwater, according to early, unofficial results.

Ada's U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore, was handily defeating Democratic challenger Donna Bebo, who did not campaign much for the job.

In Pontotoc County, Cole was winning 6,641 to Bebo's 2,251 with 13 of 21 precincts reporting.
