McGaha named interim ECU AD

With Brian DeAngelis ending a five-year run as East Central University's director of athletics early next week and the school in the midst of what officials have labeled "a nationwide search" for his successor, Matt McGaha — assistant AD for compliance and academics — has been named to take over the athletic department on an interim basis beginning Aug. 1.

"Based on the initial applications and the interest expressed in the position, no doubt we'll find a qualified candidate,"ECU President John R. Hargrave said in announcing McGaha's temporary promotion.

McGaha, compliance coordinator since 2007 and the No. 1 assistant to DeAngelis since 2009, graduated from ECU in 1995 with a bachelor of science degree in biology education, and he received his master's in education in 2002.
