Stonewall —
Stonewall senior Haley Snell finally found her groove, hitting three big 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the Lady Longhorns get some much-needed breathing room in a 42-29 win over local rival Allen during the first round of the 2013 Moss Invitational Thursday afternoon.
Stonewall, ranked No. 11 in Class A, improved to 11-3 on the year while Allen slipped to 4-8. It was a rematch of last Friday night's matchup at the Murphy Roberts Gymnasium. In that contest, Stonewall against started off slow before pulling away for a 49-19 win.
The Stonewall boys had little problems soaring pat Dewar 75-43 in another first-round game at Moss.
And in another afternoon boys game, the Allen Mustangs saw every bit of an 11-point, third-quarter lead go up in smoke in a disappointing 54-49 first-round loss to Kiowa.
When action resumes today, the Allen girls will meet Bowlegs at 11 a.m. with the Allen boys taking on Bowlegs in a 12:15 consolation game.
Stonewall will be involved in a pair of semifinal contests. The Lady Longhorns will meet Kiowa, ranked No. 2 in Class A, in a marquee 4 p.m matchup while the Stonewall boys will try and tackle Stuart (No. 18 in Class A) in tonight's 7:45 p.m. nightcap.
