Things were looking pretty grim throughout most of the contest for the Vanoss Wolves during a Pontotoc Conference clash with Roff on the road Friday night.
But Jake Grimm hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 1:08 left in the game that erased every bit of an 11-point second-half Vanoss deficit and the Wolves were able to steal a tense 61-60 victory.
Vanoss evened its record at 6-6 on the season while Roff fell to 7-9.
"Out of the three times we've played them, tonight I thought we gave ourselves the least chance to win and somehow we pulled it out," said new Vanoss head coach Jon Hurt, who watched his team overcome a 12-point, second-quarter deficit. The Wolves had lost to Roff in two previous meetings.
"That let's you know how close our last two games were," he said.
In the girls contest, Roff junior Lauren Trimmer continued to light it up for the Lady Tigers, scorching Vanoss for a season-high 31 points to lead her team to a convincing 58-38 win.
