Ada Braves drop pair to Ardmore

Ardmore pitchers allowed just nine hits in two games, and the host Cardinals posted a pair of run-rule victories, 10-2 and 12-3, over the road-weary Ada Post 72 Braves Tuesday afternoon.

The two losses extended the Braves’ latest losing streak to three games and dropped the Post 72 squad to 9-20 on the season heading into Sunday’s home doubleheader against Bartlesville at East Central University.  First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 4 p.m.

“It’s not an excuse when you play baseball, but the kids had played seven games in four days, and they were a little taxed,” said Ada coach Chris Montgomery, whose club had gone 3-2 in five games at the Woodward Festival over the weekend.  “We’ve got a little break now.  We’ll have practice on Friday and hopefully we’ll come ready to play on Sunday.”

 

Game 1

Ardmore 10, Ada 2

 

The Braves sliced a 4-0 Ardmore lead in half with a two-run fourth-inning rally, but the Cardinals scored two runs in the fifth and ended the game on the run rule with four more in the sixth.

Roff’s Trucker Lee drove in the first Ada run with a single in the fourth and scored the second on a passed ball.  Cash Miller had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, and Chase Crites went 4-for-4 to pace a 12-hit Ardmore attack.  Carson McPherson and C. J. Gregory combined on a four-hitter in the win.

 

Game 2

Ardmore 12, Ada Braves 3

 

Ada took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with the help of a couple of Ardmore miscues, then the Cardinals answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning.  Former Coalgate standout Nolan Fanning doubled leading off the top of the third and scored on a single by Tupelo product Kade Curry to cut the Ardmore lead to 5-3.  

Ardmore starter Hunter Evans didn’t allow another run, however, and the Cardinals ended the game with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.  McPherson was 2-for-4 and Crites finished 2-for-3 for Ardmore which outhit Ada 13-5.

  • Cougar Composers Cougars coach takes no chances

    At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Ada Cougars headed up to the soccer field for practice. At 2:50 they headed back down the hill and to the safety of ‘The Dunham’ the huge indoor practice facility. Lightning had been recorded some 14 miles west and head coach Matt Weber was taking no chances.
