A National Football League Punt, Pass & Kick Competition in Stratford will be hosted by Valley View Regional Hospital Thursday, June 28.
Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. with the Punt, Pass & Kick program beginning at 9 a.m. on Blackburn Field just one mile south on Highway 177 in Stratford. All participants must show proof of age at all levels of competition. Failure to provide a birth certificate or other official document will result in that participant being ineligible to compete.
The NFL’s Punt, Pass & Kick program is celebrating its 51st year and the program in Stratford will be one of the first held nationally this summer. Only soft-sole gym shoes (no cleats, football shoes, turf shoes or bare feet are allowed) are permitted. Failure to wear gym shoes results in the disqualification of the participant.
“We are so excited that Stratford Public Schools will allow us to host this exciting wellness program at iconic Blackburn Field”, Todd Essary, PPK program director and Valley View Foundation executive director stated. “We invite kids from Stratford, Pauls Valley, Sulphur, Davis, Ada and all over the region to participate in the PPK program with us.”
This program is in conjunction with the Valley View Regional Hospital Stratford Community Wide Health & Wellness Fair the same day from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Stratford Free Will Baptist Life Center at 101 Church Street on Highway 19.
NFL Punt, Pass & Kick is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-15 as they compete separately against their peers. Participant’s age is determined as of December 31 of the current year. Participants may register and compete in only one local competition. All participants must register online at www.nflppk.com or provide in person the signed parental Entry Form/Release of Liability form to the on-site PPK registration leader. Also, hard copies of entry and release forms will be available at registration table to fill out by parent before competition.
There are five groups broken up in ages 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and every participant receives a participation certificate. The top finisher in each of the boys and girls divisions from the five age brackets of each local competition will advance to the sectional round. National champions in each age bracket are recognized annually in front of a worldwide audience at the Super Bowl.
Each participant will be allowed one punt, one Pass, and one placekick as part of his/her competition. Scores are based on distance and accuracy. A participant’s final score is his/her cumulative total for the three individual events.
With more than three million boys and girls from around the country taking part in PPK competitions every year, it is one of the world’s largest youth sports participation programs. Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program.
The NFL developed the Punt, Pass & Kick program specifically for physical education so that kids may better be taught the fundamentals of punting, passing and kicking a football, as well as the teamwork needed to successfully play sports.
