Stonewall —
Head coach Brian Davis has seen growth and consistency blossom out of his Class A 11th-ranked Stonewall Lady Longhorns.
Stonewall, which improved to 18-7 after a 67-39 win over Calera in Tuesday night’s regular-season finale at home, has earned the luxury of hosting a Class A district tournament this weekend and the team draws a first-round bye, facing the Bowlegs-Strother winner Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the district finals.
“Our girls have worked hard all year and have made sure they have received the bye. I feel good about our draw and I feel like we should take care of business if we play like we’re capable of. It’s nice to have the district on our home floor,” said Davis.
Four senior starters — Breann Gipson, Kim Helms, Haley Snell and Lyndsay Daffern — have been a critical part of the Lady Longhorns’ this season. But the emergence of Stonewall’s younger players has certainly been a factor as well.
