The East Central University softball team will look to build on last season’s 27-18 overall record and 15-11 mark in the Great American Conference, as it will return 10 players, lose seven and add nine to the 2013 team.
“Most of the returners got a lot of time and experience playing last season, so they are all ready to step up and contribute,” said head coach Destini Anderson. “We lost a lot of big sticks after the 2012 season, but these players are ready to fill in those roles and be successful.”
The Lady Tigers advanced to the GAC championships a year ago but went 0-2 in the tournament. The young team will look to improve on last year’s success with six freshmen, nine sophomores, two juniors and two seniors.
“We have a massive amount of talent between the returners and the newcomers that are joining the team,” said Anderson. “Every player is going to have to continue to work hard to earn their spot in the lineup, but I think the team is excited to get the season started.”
The Lady Tigers have been picked to finish third in the 2013 GAC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. ECU received 35 points.
