EDMOND —
The East Central University baseball team split a double-header Saturday with Oklahoma Christian at Dobson Field. The Tigers (6-19) fell 5-0 in the opening game and then picked up a 3-2 come-from-behind win in the second game.
Junior Chris Lane hit .500 in one appearance and senior Benny Woodard hit .333 in two games. Woodard tallied two hits, one run and one RBI. Junior Josh Lavender added a .333 average on two hits and a team-best two RBIs.
Senior Gabriel Martinez earned the win on the mound for ECU, throwing a complete game, allowing five hits and two runs and recording eight strikeouts. Junior Robert Buitrago suffered the loss in the opening game, allowing six hits and five runs, while striking out two batters in a complete game.
The Tigers will return to action at home Tuesday, when they host Oklahoma Christian for a single nine-inning game starting at 2 p.m. The game will be the first at Tiger Field since March 2.
Game 2
ECU 3, OC 2
In the second game of the day, it took until the fourth inning before either team scored, with the Eagles (15-9) earning the first runs of the game. OC tallied two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 advantage.
However, this time the Tigers got their bats going in the top of the fifth and scored three runs for the come-from-behind win.
Senior Spencer Penrod — a graduate of Ada High School — started the rally with a one-out single to right center. Junior Chris Lane added a single through the left side and Penrod scored when Woodard hit a single.
Woodard and Lane stole bases while senior Paul Guardado was at bat and was eventually walked to load the bases. Lavender then hit a single to right field that scored two runners for the 3-2 win.
ECU’s defense then held strong in the final two innings, forcing OC into three-up; three-down in both innings.
Game 1
OC 5, ECU 0
Oklahoma Christian pitcher Luke Sandoval (4-0) scattered three hits and shut out the Tigers. The Eagles scored two runs in the third and three in the fifth in the win.
The Tigers had their best chance to score in the top of the seventh. Junior Jake Caton started the inning off with a one-out walk. Senior Mac Grace then singled to put runners on first and second. Junior Ethan Gold then struck out and senior Justin Sutherland hit into a fielder’s choice that put Grace out at second to end the inning.
Jordan Lopez and Garrett Stephenson had two RBIs each for the Eagles.

Cougars coach takes no chances
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Ada Cougars headed up to the soccer field for practice. At 2:50 they headed back down the hill and to the safety of ‘The Dunham’ the huge indoor practice facility. Lightning had been recorded some 14 miles west and head coach Matt Weber was taking no chances.
