Tiger golfers finish 14th, 5th in tourney

San Antonio, Texas —  

The East Central University women’s golf team finished 14th-of-15 teams at the 2013 Lady Rattler Roundup hosted by St. Mary’s at The Dominion Country Club.

 The Lady Tigers finished the two-round tournament with a score of 688 (343-345).

 “I’m disappointed, as is the team with our play at this tournament,” said head coach Danny Key.  “We expected better results.  We’ll get to work immediately on the things we learned over the past two days.”

 Senior Ashley Cardwell led ECU with a card of 162 (81-81) and finished tied for 38th, out of 88 golfers.

 Senior Emily Wharton and sophomores Lindsay Lunceford and Shay Shaw all tied for 72nd, with a score of 176.  Wharton finished with a 91 and 85, Lunceford put in scores of 86 and 90 and Shaw turned in cards of 87 and 89 over the two days.

 Freshman Megan Gowens was tied for 78th, with a score of 183 (89-94).

 The Lady Tigers will now have two weeks off before returning to the links for the Lion Pepsi Invitational, March 10-12.  The tournament is hosted by Texas A&M Commerce at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas.

The East Central University men’s golf team finished fifth, out of seven teams, at the 2013 James S. Litz Memorial hosted by Incarnate Word at Sonterra North Course.

 The Tigers finished the three-round tournament with a score of 950 (313-315-322).

 “I’m disappointed, as is the team with our play at this tournament,” said head coach Danny Key.  “We expected better results.  We’ll get to work immediately on the things we learned over the past two days.”

 Seniors Dakota Robbins and Travis Keeley finished tied for 10th in the individual standings, with scores of 232.  Robbins put in rounds of 75, 79 and 78.  Keeley finished with scores of 79, 71 and 82.

 Freshman Jason Goben moved up from 17th after day one to finish 12, with a 233 (77-79-77).  Junior Travis Arnold finished 33rd, with a 253 (82-86-85) and freshman Blade Knox was tied for 35th, with a 258 (83-87-88).

 The Tigers will return to action, Feb. 24-26 at the Crawford-Wade Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Commerce at the Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas.

    The preliminary competitions for the 2013 Ada News All-Star Classic 3-point Shoot Out and Slam Dunk contests were literally seconds from coming to an end when Ada High sophomore Cory Kilby rushed to the scorer’s table inside Stonewall’s Murphy-Roberts Gymnasium and asked if it was too late for him to enter the fray.

    Vanoss’ Chris Drumgo drilled four 3-pointers, finished with 14 points and garnered Most Valuable Player honors in leading the West to a 66-62 victory over the East Wednesday night in the 40th annual Ada News All-Star Classic at Stonewall High School’s Murphy-Roberts Gymnasium.

  • Cougar Composers Cougars coach takes no chances

    At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Ada Cougars headed up to the soccer field for practice. At 2:50 they headed back down the hill and to the safety of ‘The Dunham’ the huge indoor practice facility. Lightning had been recorded some 14 miles west and head coach Matt Weber was taking no chances.
