Local big schools ready for playoff runs

Ada —

Going through the schools of hard knocks has, in the eyes of head coach Ron Anderson, certainly prepared his Ada Cougars for the upcoming Class 4A basketball playoffs.

Ada, 14-9 on the season and winners of five out of the last seven games, will face host Dickson at 8 p.m. Friday in a district playoff clash.

“I feel good in that our schedule has certainly prepared us for anything we’re going to see. Tecumseh and Harrah will be in our regional,” said Anderson.

Tecumseh, ranked fifth, is 20-3 and has beaten the Cougars three times this season while Harrah, ranked 12th, is 17-6 and has topped Ada twice.

As for Dickson, the Comets are a sub-.500 team, but they can put points on the scoreboard.

“They remind me a little bit of Seminole. They’re not as athletic, but they can push the ball up the floor. They’re capable of scoring a lot of points. They scored 83 and 79 in games against Lone Grove and scored 67 against a good Madill team,” Anderson said.

Ada has been led this season by 6-foot, 6-inch sophomore sensation Cory Kilby, who has averaged 22 points and nine rebounds to go along with 13 double-doubles (points-rebounds) on the season.
