Tupelo —
Class A No. 11 Stonewall cruised past cold-shooting Roff 43-23 during a first-round contest Tuesday night at the Tupelo Invitational Tournament.
Stonewall improved to 14-5 with the win and will play Varnum tonight in a 7:10 p.m. semifinal contest.
“We played pretty good defense and executed our offense well in the first and third quarters,” said Stonewall head coach Brian Davis. “It was a good win, but we have to get better as the tournament goes on.”
In a first-round boys contest, Roff held on for a 54-45 victory over Stonewall. The Tigers forced 14 Stonewall turnovers and had a 37-27 rebounding advantage.
Roff improved to 10-9 with the win and will face Konawa in a semifinal matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Stonewall fell to 11-8.
