Ada —
A coast-to-coast pre-1916 motorcycle race will be making a pit-stop at the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center (HBFFAC) in Ada Sept. 19.
To welcome them, Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, East Central University, Young Professionals of Ada and Individual Artists of Oklahoma will be holding several motorcycle-related events Sept. 18 and 19.
Ada Area Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Warmuth said the race would be going from Fort Smith, Ark., to Lawton that day and the first bikes would be pulling into Ada around 12:45 p.m. and pulling out around 2 p.m.
“These motorcycles are 95 years old or older,” Warmuth said. “They’ll be stopping in Ada on Sept. 19 for lunch. This is a refueling lunch stop for them.”
Brad Jessop, HBFFAC director, said Young Professionals of Ada members would be there to meet the motocyclists with trays of kitty litter to catch engine oil.
“Apparently, they’re so old, that was before they recycled the oil in the engine and it just ran through the engine and dripped on the ground,” he said.
Rib Crib will sponsor lunch for the cyclists and Ada High School’s Pro-Start culinary class will serve food.
“There are activities happening on the plaza for the rest of the afternoon and into the early evening,” Warmuth said.
Beginning Saturday, “Bun Burner,” an independent film by Will Boggs, will be showing at the Chalmers Herman theater in the HBFFAC from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors can also visit the display of motorcycle and scooter artwork at HBFFAC’s art gallery. Jessop said Ada and Oklahoma City artists are featured in the art exhibit.
Contemporary motorcycle and tattoo contests will take place beginning at 3 p.m. on Sept. 19.
“When the old bikes leave, a contemporary motorcycle show will come in,” Jessop said. He said several classes of motorcycles will be winning prizes.
“Almost every kind of motorcycle made is going to win a prize,” Warmuth said.
Jessop said he hopes to have live music at the event.
Dallas Coplin, facilities coordinator for HBFFAC, said any bands interested in playing for the event may e-mail her at dcoplin@ecok.edu.
She said bands will be playing for tips and need to bring their own sound equipment. The set-length depends on how many bands respond.
