Buckle up or get a ticket

Ada —  

Failure to use a seat belt will be a risky proposition for drivers in Ada over the next five weeks.

Ada police officers wrote 24 tickets Tuesday and Wednesday, including 16 on Wednesday alone, for failure to wear seat belts, and Sgt. Jason Potter said that trend could continue through the rest of August and September.  

“We have a grant (of $18,000) through the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office that we use to pay overtime for officers who come in and work just traffic,” said Potter, who administers the program for Ada PD.  “The way we hope it works is that guys who work nights will stay on for a few extra hours.  Any officer can work at any time.”
