Ada —
An Ada woman was indicted Wednesday for allegedly embezzling more than $10,000 from the Social Security Administration.
Melody Nelson, assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, said 47-year-old Carol Watham was indicted for allegedly cashing Social Security checks that did not belong to her. Nelson told The Ada News the checks were written to Watham’s daughter, who has been in jail.

A 24-year-old Ada man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to pass a fraudulent $400 check from the account of a local Sunday school class.

According to Bridget Forshay, Citizens Advisory Board Main Street Lighting Committee chairperson, the open forum is a result of Ada’s “Penny for Our City” sales tax.
