Ada —
A ruling by the Federal Communications Commission requiring churches to keep wireless microphones off the 700 MHz frequency will have a small effect on area churches.
Doug Matlock, media director for First Baptist Church in Ada, said the ruling would require them to get rid of two of their microphones.
“It’s going to affect us just a little bit,” he said. “We’ve got one or two microphones that are in that frequency range.”
He said the mics in that range will have to be discarded.
“These certain mics are useless. We’ll have to purchase new ones within the legal frequency range,” he said.
Phillip Sullivan, media minister for Trinity Baptist Church, said the ruling would affect four of Trinity’s microphones.
“We’ve got some Sennheisers, I think four of them, that are all in the 700 range,” he said. “We’ll have to fall back and punt, I guess.”
A spokesperson for Crosspointe Church said their church didn’t have any microphones in that frequency so the ruling would not affect them.
The ruling takes effect June 12. To find out if a church’s wireless equipment will be affected, visit the FCC’s manufacturers/equipment list at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones/manufacturers.html.
Several other area churches were contacted but could not be reached by press time.
