One hundred forty-four graduates of Ada High School will finally take that highly-anticipated walk across the stage of the Ada Cougar Activity Center Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 8 p.m.
The class of 2012, the 106th graduating class of Ada High, will be addressed by state Representative Todd Thomsen, R-Ada.
The graduation will follow the usual protocol of “in at eight, out by nine” and will be commenced with an introduction of Thomsen by Senior Class President Jessy Spence.
The presentation of graduates by Principal Charles Golightly and Ada City Schools Superintendent Pat Harrison will be followed by the presentation of diplomas by School Board President Todd Boone.
The AHS band will perform the processional Pomp and Circumstance and the Senior Ensemble The National Anthem.
The band will also perform Old Scottish Melody by Charles A. Wiley.
The Performing Arts and Vocal Music Director Janet Humphrey will conduct her group in Anyway arrangement by Gilpin.
The band will wind things up with Hail Ada High School and Betty Coed by Paul Fogarty and Rudy Vallee, arrangement by Howard E. Akers.
Thomsen moved to Ada in 1990 with his wife, Melanie, to work as the Southeast Oklahoma Area Representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He and Melanie have five children, Tal, Menee, Aneli, Tovan and Tyde and have continued their work with FCA for the past 21 years.
Thomsen ran for the House of Representative in 2006. His third term began in 2011. He is the chair of Higher Education and Career Technology Education Committee. He serves as a member of the Transportation and Public Safety committees.
Thomsen is a graduate of Sapulpa High School and attended the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship. He was a four-year starter as a kicker and became a member of the 1985 National Championship Team.
