PONTOTOC — U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement officials captured a fugitive near Pontotoc County Tuesday.
John Loyd, U.S. Marshal for Eastern Oklahoma, said marshals formed a task force with officers from several agencies and teamed up with Johnston County sheriff’s deputies on a manhunt just south of Pontotoc County.
Officials were searching for 31-year-old John Russell Pittman of Connerville.
“He was wanted by the (Oklahoma) Department of Corrections and Johnston County for escape on probation violations,” Loyd said. “He actually removed his ankle monitor while under supervision and made statements that he wasn’t going to be taken in.”
Pittman was located in the community of Pontotoc and was arrested without incident. According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website, Pittman was convicted in Pontotoc County in 2008 of two counts of knowingly concealing stolen property and 12 counts of second-degree burglary.
