Ada —
A woman was charged in Pontotoc County District Court Tuesday after authorities said she embezzled nearly $60,000 from an employer.
Polly Gail Black, 40, Francis, was charged with embezzlement after an investigation by Ada Police Detective Shane Jones. Jones said he was presented with evidence of forged checks and unauthorized credit card charges made by Black.
Bill Ross, owner of Ross Construction, gave Jones dozens of checks allegedly forged by Black, who was a bookkeeper for the company during the alleged embezzlements.
“Accompanying these checks was a forgery affidavit signed by Ross,” Jones said in a court affidavit. “The checks date from Dec. 31, 2007 through Jan. 12, 2010.”
Jones said the checks totaled $17,370.52.
“Ross said he did not authorize these checks nor did he authorize the issuance of the checks,” Jones said.
Jones said the checks were made out to Black herself. Ross also presented credit card statements with 309 reportedly unauthorized charges totaling $41,977.23.
“Ross said Black had access to both (business) credit cards, but was not authorized to use them,” Jones said.
Court officials said Black turned herself in to authorities on Monday and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court Oct. 28.
