ADA — Pontotoc County volunteer fire departments sent a second wave of assistance to the Norman area Saturday afternoon and area firefighters helped save at least a half-dozen structures threatened by one of several fast-moving fires north and south of Highway 9.
Units from Byng, Stonewall, Francis, Fitzhugh, Lula, Union Valley and Pickett, along with an ambulance from Valley View Regional Hospital, left Oil Center at 5:17 p.m. Saturday headed for Thunderbird Casino, just over an hour after the call for assistance went out to fire departments in the county.
“The response was fantastic,” Pontotoc Emergency Management Director Chad Letellier said Sunday.
