ECU student charged with sexual abuse

Ada —

An East Central University student was charged Wednesday with child sexual abuse and lewd or indecent acts with a child under 16 after he allegedly had consensual sex with a 14-year-old girl earlier this month.

Michael Scott Leslie, 22, was arrested Tuesday and released Wednesday on $25,000 bond following his arraignment on charges he allegedly had sex with a girl who was left in his care on Sept. 7.  The girl reported the encounter to her guardian the next day, and in an interview on Sept. 11 she described it in detail, saying Leslie touched her chest and side before they had intercourse.

Leslie reportedly sent text messages to the girl’s guardian after the alleged sexual liaison in which he attempted to justify what had happened, saying, among other things, “I don’t know what I was thinking.  I just let myself be attracted.  I didn’t start out like that …Nothing like that has ever happened before.”

On Tuesday, Leslie surrendered himself at the Ada Police Department and stated he wanted to hire a lawyer before making any statements.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Pontotoc County Justice Center, where he remained until bond was posted.
