County OKs $8,000 for Lula VFD equipment

Ada —  

Pontotoc County Commissioners Monday approved a request from Lula Volunteer Fire Department to apply for $8,284.60 in grant money from the Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) to purchase new equipment.

Lula chief Kim Johnson said after the meeting the money will be used to buy wild land gear for firemen, six hand-held radios, six pagers and two backpack blowers to replace old equipment .

“We’re supposed to replace it every five years, and ours is 11 years old,” Johnson said.
