Commissioners discuss pay scale for employees

Ada —

Pontotoc County Commissioners and elected department officials spent more than two hours Monday morning grappling with a pay scale  they hoped would be fair to all departments.

Commissioners originally took up the matter at an Oct. 23 meeting where they expressed concern over an elected county official giving a promotion and raise to an employee who had been with the county just a few months.

The issue was tabled last week because it wasn’t on the agenda.  The problem, Commissioner Gary Starnes said, was that employees with much more experience could find themselves working for less money than a new employee whose job had a higher value rating.

After more than two hours of kicking it around, outgoing commissioner Danny Davis asked Commissioner Justin Roberts if he wanted to withdraw his motion to adopt the pay scale until everyone had more time to review the scale.
