Pontotoc County commissioners voted Monday to encumber almost $40,000 from four upcoming road or bridge construction projects to pay for initial start-up costs.
Commission Chairman Justin Roberts said the money, totaling $39,970, will be used for engineering and environmental studies, with the biggest chunk — $22,000 — coming from a bridge renovation south of Stonewall in his own District 3. The county will pay back the money once the projects are completed in a move Roberts said is common.
