ECU promotes within to name alumni director

Ada —

East Central University is staying within the family to hire its new alumni director.

Katie Wellington, who has served as a counselor in ECU’s Educational Talent Search Program, will assume her new duties as alumni director on Feb. 18.

“Katie and her family have a long history at East Central University and I think that she is going to do a bang-up job,” said ECU President John Hargrave.

Wellington has served as a counselor in ECU’s talent search program since 2011 and, prior to that, had a near two-year stint as a counselor’s student assistant.

“Katie brings a youthful exuberance and a skill set that will appeal to all ECU alumni. Her long family ties with the Ada community will be an enhancement to her position,” said Phyllis Danley, executive director of the ECU Foundation, Inc., and director of university advancement and alumni relations. “We are looking forward to her joining our team as an important part of the ECU family.”

Wellington is pursuing a master’s degree in human resources from ECU and obtained her bachelor’s degree in mass communication from ECU in 2010.

She has a deep-rooted history with ECU as she has attended 24 homecomings and has been involved in many campus events. Her parents, brother, sister-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are ECU alumni.

“I am excited and honored to have been selected to serve as the director of alumni relations at my alma mater and I look forward to making a positive contribution to the university,” Wellington said.
