Roff probe may be handed over to county sheriff

Roff —

Roff’s missing water payment case may soon be in the hands of the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, according to sources in Roff.

Roff Police Chief Glen Bohannon said he was informed by Brent Crawford, Roff’s acting mayor, that the case would be turned over to Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office.

“That way there won’t be a conflict of interest with the people that we work with every day,” Bohannon said.

Bohannon said he was previously waiting for council to meet and direct him to begin an investigation.

The missing funds, allegedly totalling approximately $1,000 in checks and $1,000 in cash and other moneys, were reportedly deposited by Town Secretary Connie Hilburn at Oklahoma Heritage Bank’s Roff branch Aug. 1.  Todd McCaskill, Roff’s former mayor, said the bank did not have record of the deposit.

The incident led to McCaskill’s resignation as mayor but he remains on the council.

McCaskill alleged council members were not attempting to correct the situation.

Roff City Attorney James Graves said he was uncertain when the case would be turned over.
