Ada —
Two people were arrested Thursday after one allegedly fought with deputies.
Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies arrested 27-year-old Ashley Anderson and 31-year-old Rebecca Wheeler on various charges. Deputies went to Wheeler’s residence on County Road 1515 to arrest Anderson who had outstanding felony warrants.
According to Deputy Shandy Bynum, she and two other deputies were attempting to serve the warrants when she saw two adults and three children running through the house in an attempt to hide.
After no answer at the door, deputies entered and discovered Wheeler in a bedroom along with five children. Wheeler became upset demanding to see the warrants and claimed Anderson was not there, according to Bynum.
“I stepped through the doorway into the bedroom and (Anderson) came out of the closet in an aggressive manner,” Bynum said. “He ran between the bed and ottoman and ran into Deputy Brent Rhoads, hitting him in the chest with his head.”
Bynum said Anderson wrestled with deputies so she pulled and deployed her tazer gun, hitting Anderson in his side for a five-second discharge. She said he complied with deputies after being tazed.
Bynum said deputies found drug paraphernalia in the house which had a white, powdery substance they believed to be methamphetamine. The children were released to relatives.
Anderson was arrested on suspicion of having warrants, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, child endangerment and assault and battery on a police officer.
Wheeler was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, child endangerment and harboring a fugitive.
