Stonewall deer hunt slated by Gov. Fallin

Ada —

Oklahoma Southeast (OKSE) is bringing the inaugural Governor’s Big Buck Hunt Invitational to Stonewall.

“I’m excited,” said OKSE President Mike Southard.  “This is bringing in a lot of opportunities, not only for Ada but for southeast Oklahoma.”

Southard said governors around the country host several hunting events where they invite corporate CEOs and other business professionals in hopes of attracting business to their state.

“Alaska might have a grizzly bear hunt or there will be an elk hunt in Wyoming,” he said.

He said OKSE is an economic development group comprised of cities in the region. OKSE currently hosts the Lt. Governor’s turkey hunt in Hugo and a golf and striper fishing event.

Governor Mary Fallin’s office asked the group to sponsor a deer hunt. After scouting several locations, Southard said the group chose Wildcat Springs Ranch in Stonewall. The high-fenced ranch boasts over 7,000 acres populated with deer, elk and bison.
