Big Brothers Big Sisters returns to Ada

After a five-year absence, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma has returned to Ada.

The nonprofit organization, which provides mentoring for at-risk students, maintained an office in Ada until 2007. A program specialist in Shawnee oversaw local matches from 2007 until January of this year, when the organization reopened the Ada office to promote its Native American initiative and its partnership with the Chickasaw Nation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages 6 to 18, known as “Littles,” with adult volunteers who serve as mentors, or “Bigs.” The organization monitors the relationship between children and their mentors and offers support.
