Holdenville — Officials are saying the death of a Hughes County child Saturday was accidental.
Hughes County Sheriff Houston Yeager said 21-month-old Kayden Boyles was found in a pond.
“From what I understand, (the family) had trouble with the back door not closing good and the baby managed to get outside,” Yeager said. They noticed he wasn’t in the house, that’s when they found him in the pond.”
According to a report, a 15-year-old cousin of the toddler was watching him along with two other children ages 9 and 10.
The 15-year-old reportedly told authorities it may have been five minutes before he noticed the toddler was missing.
A neighbor helped perform CPR and Boyles was taken to Holdenville General Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.
Funeral services for Boyles will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.
