Prayers sought by family for crash victim

Ada —  

The family of an Ada woman injured in a wreck April 26 is asking for prayers.

Lea Newsome, 25, received serious injuries in the crash at the intersection of Cradduck and 32nd Street. She remains at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in fair condition with head injuries.

Jamie Johnson, Newsome’s aunt, said the injuries have left Newsome in an altered state and suffering from amnesia.

“For her family and my sister, this has just been so heart-wrenching,” Johnson said, “and with more people praying for her maybe she’ll come out of it quicker.”

Johnson said Newsome is suffering from injuries to her frontal and temporal lobes.

“It could come back to her, but the way they’re talking, it could go on for months,” she said. 

Johnson said after the wreck, Newsome was unconscious and suffering seizures, making it appear she was awake.

“Finally she woke up, but then she didn’t recognize anybody,” Johnson said. “She does recognize sometimes, and then sometimes she doesn’t recognize us at all, and it’s just really, really terrible on her mother. Her mom ended up trying to get extended leave (from work) because she can’t be left at all.”

Johnson said family members are caring for Newsome’s child.

“Her dad has been taking care of her son and getting him back and forth to school,” she said. “She doesn’t realize she has a son.”

Johnson said while she has been in the hospital, someone burglarized Newsome’s home and stole everything she owned, including her son’s things.

“It’s unbelievable how terrible this has been,” Johnson said.

The burglary occurred in the 2000 block of East 13th sometime between April 26 and May 1.

Ada police are investigating. Anyone with information about the burglary can phone CrimeStoppers at 33CATCH or 332-2824, report the information and remain anonymous.
