Two arrested during burglary spree

Ada —

Two juveniles were arrested after police caught them allegedly with stolen items Wednesday.

Authorities are not releasing the names of the two because they are under age 18. Ada Police Officer Jeremy O’Brien was patrolling the area of Johnston and Kings Road when he came upon one of the juveniles standing next to a pickup. When O’Brien drove past the pickup, the suspect entered the extended-cab vehicle.

“I observed the subject started to throw stuff from the front of the vehicle to the rear between the driver and passenger seats,” O’Brien said. “I observed (the juvenile) kept looking towards me as he was moving around.”

Questioned by O’Brien, the suspect said he was waiting for a friend who was a few doors down.

“I asked (the juvenile) to exit the vehicle and noticed some electronic equipment wiring stringing from the rear of the vehicle towards the front seat. I observed several phones and MP 3 players inside the vehicle.”

O’Brien arrested the suspect, age 17, for curfew violation.

“Officer Mike Meeks observed a firearm sitting in the front driver seat of the vehicle, close to the center,” O’Brien said. “The firearm was a black semi-auto 9mm pistol.”

O’Brien said the gun was loaded with a round in the chamber.

While searching the juvenile, O’Brien said he located what he believes to be marijuana and a “broken white pill” in his pocket that will be sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for testing.

“Officer Richard Hubble located the registered owner of the vehicle (the second suspect — also 17) hiding in a storage shed in the backyard (of a residence in the 1300 block of south Johnston).

Police contacted one of the suspect’s parents who met with them at Ada Police Department. According to O’Brien, the suspect said he and his friend had been driving all around town “checking for unlocked vehicles,” O’Brien said. “(The suspect) stated he took a semi-auto pistol from a vehicle in the area of Highland, south of (Arlington).”

Police searched for vehicles in the areas the juveniles said they committed the burglaries and found several vehicles ransacked, according to reports. Police made contact with owners and discovered items missing included global positioning systems, radar detectors, cash, car stereos, cigarettes, MP3 players and cell phones.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said one of the juveniles is a suspect in several burglaries in Fittstown. Christian said burglars struck two churches and an alternative school in the community. Windows were broken and cash was stolen, he said.

Judge Martha Kilgore ordered both juveniles to be taken to juvenile detention facilities. Officials will now decide whether or not to charge the two as adults.
