Best-selling author to speak at church

Ada area residents will have the opportunity to listen to best-selling author and featured radio and television guest Cynthia Tobias on Friday, Feb. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ada First Baptist Church, located on 15th Street and Broadway.

The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by Smart Start South Central, East Central University Child Care Resource and Referral and the Pontotoc County Systems of Care.

Tobias, who has authored nine best-selling books, has successful backgrounds, including 25 years of private practice, eight years of public education and six years in law enforcement. She is a well-known presenter in the fields of business, government, churches and education throughout the world.

“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to have Cynthia Tobias speak to our community. Her message will include something valuable for every person attending,” said Patricia Little, coordinator of Smart Start South Central.

 Her presentation, Bringing Out the Best in the Strong-Willed Child, is based on her book You Can’t Make Me! (But I Can Be Persuaded). The presentation is designed to provide audiences with useful strategies for turning conflict into cooperation.

Tobias’ goal is to help families gain insight into the mind of a strong-willed child, discover how to hold a strong-willed child accountable, and to instill useful strategies to motive a strong-willed child. The hope is that the audience walks away with not only knowledge and tools to make a positive difference, but with motivation and inspiration to do so.

 A light meal will be served and child care is available (ages birth to 8 years). Pre-registration is required by Monday, Feb. 18, if you would like the provided child care and/or the light dinner. Those wishing to register can call 580-559-5873.

    A dragon boat, kayaks and canoes gracefully slid atop Wintersmith Lake in Ada during a special program hosted by the Chickasaw Nation Riversport Youth Canoe/Kayak League. This marked the first time in approximately 20 years such an event was conducted on the local lake.

    Ada Community Theatre (ACT II) is now taking applications for its summer Youth Drama Camp. The production will be “Montgomery Mansion”, a comical musical written by Vickie Reifsnider, Darice Strickland and Rudy Lupinski.  The camp receives funding assistance from the Oklahoma Arts Council.
