Elderly woman killed on rural Pontotoc County road

Ada —

An elderly woman, who law officers believe may have been confused and left her home early Thursday, was found dead about 5 a.m. on County Road 1495 a half mile east of Francis.

The man who called 911 to report the accident told sheriff’s officials he had run over the woman’s body.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said investigators believe the woman had been struck earlier in the morning by another motorist in what appears to have been a hit-and-run situation.
