Day of fun planned for residents

Ada —

Ada has several family activities planned for this year’s Fourth of July holiday starting with the Ada Sunrise Rotary’s annual Fireball Memorial Classic Race.

The race will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. today in Wintersmith Park, but it is separate from the Fourth of July festivities sponsored by the Ada Kiwanis Club. All events, including the official celebration, will take place today.

Following the race, the Ada Lions Club will sponsor kiddie Olympics from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Kids can enjoy a variety of games, including turtle races, a hula hoop contest and a watermelon seed-spitting contest.

Martial arts demonstrations will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and church youth will present Olympic games for families from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Ada Fire Department will offer waterworks games from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club will operate its fun park and sell concessions throughout the day, and the Explorer Scouts will hand out water to patrons. The Explorer Scouts will also man a recruitment booth during the festivities.

The day will conclude with a fireworks display set to begin at about 9:30 p.m.
