New postmaster takes over Ada post office

Ada —

Shawn Gibb started her postal career as a contract cleaner in the Walters post office, responsible for keeping the office tidy.

Gibb already had relatives working for the U.S. Postal Service, as her mother and aunt were both rural postal carriers. Two months after she started cleaning the Walters post office, she took a job as a postal clerk in Walters.

Those two jobs launched Gibb’s career with the Postal Service, which spanned 11 years and took her to 25 post offices around Oklahoma.

Now, Gibb is putting her experience to work as the new postmaster for the Ada post office.

The 44-year-old Ada resident said she began her new job June 30, and she is excited about the opportunity to help the post office’s customers.

“I’m looking forward to being here and serving the community here in Ada,” she said.

Gibb replaces former postmaster Carol Johnson, who has retired.
